Annette has joined the staff at San Diego Hospice and The Institute for Palliative Medicine (SDHIPM) as clinical medical director in November 2004. Board certified in Internal Medicine, Geriatrics as well as Palliative Medicine, Annette sees patients at home, in long-term care facilities, the SDHIPM Inpatient Care Center or as consultant in associated hospitals in the San Diego County such as the UCSD Moores Cancer Center. Annette’s academic interests include adult learning in the medical environment as well as care for patients with advanced dementia and in the long-term care setting. Annette is the program director of the SDHIPM Interdisciplinary Faculty Development Program (IFDP), a mentorship program and research study focused on the growth of palliative care leaders from all disciplines, and directs the SDHIPM Geriatric Palliative Care rotation for physician fellows.
From Germany originally, Annette completed her medical school training at Ruprecht-Karls-University in Heidelberg in 1999. She then transferred to the United States for residency training in Internal Medicine at Temple University in Philadelphia, PA, and fellowships in Hospice and Palliative Medicine at Stanford University/VA Palo Alto Health Care Center and Geriatric Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco.
Annette currently holds the academic rank of Voluntary Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine at the University of California, San Diego.
