The Institute for Palliative Medicine at San Diego Hospice

The Children’s Program at San Diego Hospice and The Institute for Palliative Medicine

We believe it takes the utmost compassion and dedication to care for children and their families. To do this we have developed a team of experts in pediatric palliative care including physicians, nurses, medical social workers, spiritual counselors, grief counselors, and volunteers. We strive to give children and families as much comfort and support during a difficult time.

Care is provided wherever it is best for the patient and family. Our flexibility allows us to provide all services in the home or in a home-like setting like in our Inpatient Care Center in Hillcrest.

Of everything we do, the work we do with children can be the most difficult, but it is also the most inspiring. It is why we do whatever it takes to ease their pain, comfort their grief and support the family along the way.

Our Comprehensive Approach

For the child facing a life-limiting illness

We are experts at relieving pain and improving quality of life. We address  physical symptoms immediately and then see to the emotional and spiritual comfort of both the child and family.

For the child who is grieving a loss

When a child loses a loved one, the way his or her grief is supported can make all the difference in how life unfolds within the family. We offer experienced grief counselors who provide guidance, comfort and a variety of therapies according to the age and special needs of each child. These services are delivered through our Center for Grief Care and Education. (click here)
