Dr. Krakauer previously served as Director and Senior Consultant in Palliative Care of the Vietnam-CDC-Harvard Medical School AIDS Partnership (VCHAP), an organization he founded in 2002. In these roles, he has trained over one thousand Vietnamese physicians and nurses in HIV/AIDS care and palliative care. Currently, he is assisting Vietnam’s Ministry of Health to integrate palliative care into HIV/AIDS and cancer care nationwide. Dr. Krakauer is also a consultant to the International Palliative Care Initiative of the Open Society Institute and the International Pain Policy Fellowship at the University of Wisconsin Cancer Center. At Harvard Medical School, he is Assistant Professor of Medicine and Assistant Professor of Global Health and Social Medicine. He practices internal medicine and palliative care at Massachusetts General Hospital where he previously directed the Fellowship Program in Palliative Medicine and currently serves as Co-Chair of the hospital’s ethics committee.
