Julie Prazich, MD

Julie Prazich, MD is a Medical Director at Large at San Diego Hospice and The Institute for Palliative Medicine (SDHIPM). She is particularly interested in understanding how medical students and residents express their personal encounter with hospice and palliative care through prose, poetry, and visual art.

Julie received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Pittsburgh in 1968. She earned her medical degree and completed a residency in Internal Medicine at the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond in 1975. After practicing Internal Medicine in both solo and group settings she accepted a position as Medical Director of Sharp Senior Healthcare where she led the development of GEM (an outpatient Geriatric Evaluation and Management program). During her years with Sharp Healthcare, she participated in medical staff activities including a stint as Chief of the Department of Medicine at Sharp Cabrillo Hospital. She also served as Medical Director for Sharp Home Health, was medical consultant to San Diego Senior Health Initiative, and served as a consulting physician to the Center for Mind Body Medicine. Dr Prazich joined the staff of San Diego Hospice in 1995 where she found an environment that has allowed her to express herself through her profession and through art.
